Winco’s 3410 and 1450 Window Series Combine Historic Aesthetics with Energy Efficiency
Moreau Seminary is tucked away on one of the most beautiful spots on the campus of the famed University of Notre Dame in Indiana. The building was constructed in 1957 and serves as the major seminary for the Congregation of Holy Cross. Seminarians, retired priests, and scholastics live at Moreau. The historic structure was also used in the filming of the 1993 classic film, Rudy, a biographical movie about playing football at the University.
By 2024, the building was ready for a refresh. The single-paned aluminum windows were cold and drafty in the winter and let in the heat during the hot Midwest summers. St. Louis-based Mackey Mitchell Architects worked with Winco to restore the building’s aesthetics and deliver much needed energy efficiency. A combination of Winco’s easy-to-operate 3410 series horizontal slider windows and 1450 series windows were used to accomplish both goals.
As Winco and Mackey Mitchell are both located in St. Louis, the job was easy to coordinate on a local basis. Winco created the shop drawings, made samples, and met with the glazing contractor, Precision Wall Systems, on-site at Notre Dame to ensure every detail was in order before the custom windows were crafted.
According to Rob Miller at Precision, “We take pride working on Notre Dame’s historic campus. The design and finish of the 3410 and 1450 series windows are a perfect complement to the seminary’s new midcentury modern aesthetic. These windows have the energy efficiency, and most importantly the durability to last for decades. We are pleased with Winco’s products, support, and professionalism from start to finish, helping make a complex renovation go smoothly.”
